As United States Thanksgiving approaches, many of us begin to think about the people we love, the meals we are planning, and the traditions that hold meaning in our homes. This time of year naturally invites reflection. It reminds us of the foods that have shaped our families and the memories we hope to create again.
Lately, this has had me thinking about Italy.
There is something about Italian culture that continues to stand out to me. The way people gather. The way food is prepared with intention. The way simple ingredients are transformed into meals that are inviting and full of meaning. Italian meals are never rushed. They are rooted in connection, heritage, and the experience of sharing a table.
Italy does not celebrate Thanksgiving the way we do in North America. Instead, their holidays revolve around feast days, regional customs, and traditions that honour the season. Bread, olive oil, fresh herbs, and ingredients grown close to home play an important role. Recipes are shaped by the people, the land, and the slow rhythm of family life. It is a pace and philosophy that aligns closely with how I love to bake and teach.
As we move into the holidays, I will be sharing Italian-inspired ideas that you can bring into your own kitchen. To begin, I am sharing a family tradition.

These tender, lightly sweet cookies are very similar to classic Italian ricotta cookies. They have also been a holiday tradition in my home for more than twenty-five years. They are simple, not fussy, and full of flavour. Our holidays would not feel the same without them.
